| Swim |
 |
 |
|
| The swim
course consists of a 750 metre paddle shaped course. Olympic
distance competitors will complete two loops of the course exiting at
the beach and running around the lifeguard chair and re-entering the
water for the second loop. Sprint and quadrathlon competitors
will complete one loop of the course and proceed to the transition area. |
| Bike |
 |
 |
 |
| The bike
course is a straight out-and-back course from the Shubie campground
parking lot to the Department of Natural Resources field office at 2115
Waverly road. The course is 9.8 Km out to the DNR office so
the sprint competitors will do a single out-and-back for 19.6 Km and
the olympic distance competitors will do two loops for 39.2 Km.
The mount/dismount line is at the paved entrance to the
campground parking lot on John Brenton drive. The course goes
to the end of John Brenton drive (approx 300m) and turns right onto
Jaybe drive. There is then a left turn from Jaybe drive on to
Waverly road and the course continues north to the DNR field office.
At this turnaround the cyclists will turn left into the
parking lot keeping to the right of the orange safety cones.
There will be a cone to turn around and the
cyclists will turn right on to Waverly road re-entering traffic.
The course then follows itself back to the entrance to the
campground turning right on to Jaybe drive. The olympic
distance competitors will turn around in John Brenton drive about 25
metres from the mount/dismount line and continue for a second loop.
The sprint distance competitors will dismount and continue to
T2. NOTE:
The cycle route is not on closed roads. Cyclists
will have to obey the rules of the road, by staying to the right of the
lane so car traffic can safely pass. Cyclist must travel in a
single line except while passing another cyclist as outlined in the
rules of triathlon, section
E2 .
There will be Triathlon Canada certified officials on the
bike course to enforce these rules. |
| Run |
 |
|
|
| The
start of the run course for the triathlon is at the transition area in
the campground parking lot. The trail head is the same as the
one used to get to the beach. The runners will bear left and
head towards the canal. The runners will then turn left
before the canal and head towards the Fairbanks centre. The
runners will continue along this trail until the end of the pond at the
locks road entrance to the park. This marks the start of the
first loop of the run course for the triathletes. The olympic
didstance will do two loops and the sprint distance one. At
the end of the pond the runners will turn right and cross the bridge at
the canal locks and turn right at the end of the bridge and follow the
trail on the opposite side of the pond. After about 200
metres there will be a left turn at the first trail crossing.
The runners will then go up the hill for about 100 metres and
turn right at the next trail crossing. After about 400 metres
the runners will merge with the runners coming from the turnaround.
Runners should
keep to their left at all times.
At the head of
the Lake Charles trail the runners will turn left and continue on this
trail until the turnaround. Note that there are separate
turnaround points for the olympic distance, sprint distance and
quadrathlon races. The earliest turnaround will br for the sprint
distance race. The second turnaround will be for the olympic
distance race. The last turnaround will be for the quadrathlon.
Make sure you know your turnaround. The runners will then
follow the
same path back until the head of the canal where they will turn left
and cross the canal at the bridge. Across the bridge the
runners will turn right and merge with the runners coming out of
transition (CAUTION).
The runners will then follow the course back to
the Fairbanks Centre. At the Fairbanks Centre the olympic
distace competitors will turn right and continue on their second loop.
The competitors who are finishing will keep going straight
along the path leading to the Fairbanks Centre and finish at the finish
line arbour. |
| Transition |
 |
 |
|
| The
transition area is located in the parking lot of the Shubie Park
Campground at the end of John Brenton Drive. During T1, from
swim to bike, the entrance to the transition will be at the beach end
of the transition area and the flow of competitors will be one-way
towards the opposite end of the transition area. During T2,
from bike to run/kayak, the entrance to the transition area will be
from the end closest to John Brenton drive, and the flow will be
one-way towards the beach end of the transition area. Note to teams:
The team tag area is at the beach end of the transition area
for both the swim-to-bike tag and the bike-to-run tag. The
swimmer in each team must tag their
cyclist in the tag area before the cyclist enters transition. After the bike, the cyclist must
rack their bike before tagging the runner of their team and the runner
will then enter the run course. The
only team member allowed in transition will be the cyclist. |
| Kayak |
 |
|
|
| (Quadrathlon
competitors only) The kayak
portion of the race will come after the bike section. The
competitors will exit transition after racking their bikes following
the runners. Quadrathletes will head towards the beach to
where the swim start was. The kayakers will enter Lake
Charles at the beach and follow the buoys which will have been moved to
create a 3 Km loop. The kayakers will keep the buoys to their
left at all times. Upon returning to the beach area the kayakers will
enter the canal to the right of the beach and follow the canal to the
pond where the kayak section will finish. The kayakers will
exit the water at the dock and enter the run course at the far end of
the pond, merging with the triathletes. The quadrathlon
competitors will complete a single loop of the sprint run course before
proceeding to the finish line. |
